In support of the recent launch of the Keeping Nature Connected website, the OCCP and TNCC teamed up with The Nature Educator (Rachael Tancock) to answer the question: What are Wildlife Corridors? Rachael's answer comes in the form of a short video reel where she provides a straightforward (and quick) explanation. She also explains their critical importance to wildlife and the health of the land and communities we live in.

UBC Okanagan recently hosted the Southern Interior Crossings and Connectivity Forum. Participants included representatives of Indigenous communities and government agencies, scientists, and conservationists. Since disconnected habitats, or natural areas, are a major driver of biodiversity loss, the forum gathered for the purpose of sharing knowledge and developing solutions for maintaining vital habitat connections across BC’s Southern Interior.

Through its Conservation Fund, the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) awarded $104,490 in 2024 to six projects to help conserve natural areas and restore and protect water, land and wildlife. OCCP assists the RDNO staff by promoting the fund, supporting local organizations to develop grant submissions, coordinating the technical advisory committee who review grant submissions, and making recommendations of support to the RDNO board of directors.

The North Okanagan Conservation Fund is now accepting applications for funding until the deadline: October 31 at 4:30 pm.
