Environment and Climate Change Canada's (ECCC) EcoAction Community Funding Program is now accepting applications for funding until March 30, 2020, for projects beginning summer 2020. Funding is available for new projects that engage Canadians and clearly demonstrate measurable, positive results related to the key environmental priority of fresh water. Projects must include one related priority result: the diversion and reduction of harmful substances and plastic waste in Fresh Water; or the improvement and restoration of aquatic habitat. Preference will be given to proposals that engage Indigenous Peoples, youth, and/or small businesses. See program requirements here. Habitat Stewardship Program for Aquatic Species at Risk has called for proposals for the 2020-2021 cycle. Funding is for projects that contribute directly to the recovery of aquatic species at risk. The Aboriginal Fund for Species at Risk (AFSAR; Species at Risk Stream and Prevention Stream) is now accepting applications for the 2020-2021 funding cycle. In its 16th year, AFSAR provides funding to support projects aimed at supporting continued capacity development of Indigenous organizations and communities so that they can participate in the recovery of species at risk, protection of their habitat, and in preventing other species from becoming a conservation concern. Systems Change Grants support projects that take action to address the root causes of pressing social, environmental or cultural issues by influencing the behaviours of populations, organizations, and institutions. Short-term grants (Develop grants) are a one-time application that can be submitted any time throughout the year and decisions are made the following month. The next granting cycle for multi-year grants (Test and Scale grants) opens January 2, 2019.
