Over the past 10 years, OCCP, through the support and efforts of our partner organizations, has achieved many local conservation successes. The work of the past has created a strong foundation of common goals and strategies, which continue to drive the direction of the OCCP.

With the new year upon us and new opportunities on the horizon, earlier this month we asked our partner organizations to participate in a strategic planning session to chart the future of the OCCP. We asked for our partners to provide their insights, thoughtful perspectives, and enthusiasm to evaluate our future priorities, programming, and projects.

The OCCP believes that through collaboration, we can create action plans that will be of mutual benefit to our organizations, communities, and the environment.

The strategic planning session brought together a diverse group of people, with representatives from local governments, industry, academia, and community groups. All with the shared goal to conserve biodiversity in the Okanagan.

Several objectives and key results were defined through the work of those participating. Two key themes that emerged from the session were

  1. the importance of collaboration and coordination between partner organizations
  2. an interest to expand the partnership by attracting diverse organizations and groups that share the OCCP mandate of biodiversity conservation

Another key theme identified was the idea of strengthening and implementing more Valley Wide approaches to planning, policy making, and biodiversity conservation activities.

OCCP is reviewing the key outcomes of the session and drafting a strategic plan which will outline the objectives and key results of the program for the next three years. The draft plan will be shared with our partners to gain feedback. From there a Strategic Plan will be finalized that will chart the future of the program over the next three years.

It is clear that with the continued support of our partner organizations and the capacity to expand our partner network, OCCP is in a prime position to have a meaningful and lasting positive influence on biodiversity conservation in the Okanagan. Thank you for your support!
